Holby City fans of the show are in for a treat with the forthcoming ITV1 drama The Best Man.
Among the cast is George Irving, who is perhaps best remembered as razor-sharp surgical consultant Anton Meyer in the soap.
Regular viewers of the medical drama will know that during his three-year tenure, Meyer ruled Darwin Ward with a rod of iron.
While the staff feared his sometimes brutal bedside manner, his surgical skills were beyond compare.
However, Meyer suffered a blow to his seemingly impenetrable confidence when he thought he had developed Motor Neurone Disease.
Thankfully, it proved to be a harmless virus, but his fall from grace was completed in 2002 when Meyer was forced to quit the job he loved amid damaging accusations.
Happily, fans of the distinguished actor get to see him back on the small screen in The Best Man, this time playing Miller, a disgraced policeman whose past haunts him.
The two-part drama is written by Russell Lewis, who has also penned episodes of Inspector Morse and Hornblower, and co-stars Toby Stephens, who featured in espionage drama The Cambridge Spies.
Also among the cast are Coupling's Richard Coyle, Keeley Hawes, former star of Spooks, and Indra Ove, of Attachments fame.
