George Irving, who played the formidable consultant surgeon Mr Meyer in BBC1's Holby City, was in Taunton yesterday (Thursday) to open the new sterile services department at Musgrove Park Hospital.

The new facility, which became operational in August, provides services to all wards and departments, 13 theatres,community hospitals and family planning departments. Staff who helped plan the purpose-built new decontamination unit asked for the actor to be invited to the official opening.
